Chemical Operator FLSA Status: Non-exempt EEO Job Category: 7 Summary Responsible for the safe and efficient operation and monitoring of processing equipment and support systems within assigned Silane or FBR Units Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following examples of duties and responsibilities illustrate the general range of tasks assigned to the position but are not intended to define the limits of required duties. Other essential duties may be assigned consistent with the general scope of the position. * Monitor and operate process equipment by following written procedures to ensure personal safety and product quality * Operate a DCS control system involving all aspects of plant operation * Maintain a clean working environment and production department * Monitor chemical inventories and maintain them at acceptable levels * Troubleshoot and prepare equipment for maintenance * Record production data in logbook and processing documents * Clean and maintain equipment and work area * Compute and record production statistics * Successful completion and maintenance of the company Operator certification and Emergency Squad Certification annually Qualifications Incumbents must have demonstrated knowledge and abilities in these areas. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience * Requires a minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) to three (3) years related experience, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience Computer Skills * Basic computer skills including functionality in Microsoft Office Suite Other Skills and Abilities * Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals * Ability to write routine reports and correspondence * Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals * Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization * Must be a team player and supportive and cooperative of management and corporate initiatives * Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form These skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education, experience and training. This combination will provide the competence to perform the work of the position. Supervisory and Budgetary Responsibilities * None Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. * The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and talk or hear * Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell * Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally push and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lifting and carrying of 30 to 50 pound valves and hoses is required * The operator must be able to push a heavy cart with at least 50 pounds of force * Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus * Radio communication is required * Ladders and stairs are climbed frequently and valves are carried up and down stairs * Personal protective safety equipment and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and bunker gear are required to be used during emergency procedures * Three-inch high-pressure fire hose is used for fire fighting * High grip force is necessary to lift and carry, as well as handle, the equipment * Heavy lifting and carrying of victims may be necessary in case of an emergency. In this situation, the E-Squad Member would carry a victim on a stretcher with a co-worker. * E-Squad member must be able to control and extinguish fires, to protect life and property, by handling hoses to direct water or chemicals onto fire. * E-Squad member is qualified to administer first aid and CPR to injured persons and individual overcome by fire and smoke. * Average aerobic capacity is required for E-Squad member Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
